The fellows will rotate in the clinical chemistry laboratory at MUSC, a full-service laboratory including general chemistry, immunoassays, therapeutic drug monitoring, toxicology, special chemistry, and critical care laboratories with 53 medical technologists. The over 8000 sq-ft laboratory is equipped with Beckman Coulter total automation chemistry system, Siemens Centaur XP and Immulite 2000 immunoassay systems, Waters LC MS/MS, Perkin Elmer GC, Waters HPLC, Bio-Rad Hb Variant system, Helena electrophoresis system, and Radiometer blood gas analyzers. The fellows also have opportunity to rotate in the clinical chemistry laboratory at VA Medical Center. In addition, the fellows will rotate in molecular pathology, immunology, and hematology laboratories. The trainees are not only trained in all sub-disciplines of modern clinical chemistry, but also in basic, clinical, or translational research, laboratory management, and teaching.
